 In the framework of the UN Climate Change Conference COP29, currently taking place in Azerbaijan, the Minister of Ecosocialism of Venezuela, Josué Lorca, met on Tuesday with Ruslan Edelgueríev, Russia’s representative on climate and environmental issues.

During the meeting, Lorca emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between both countries and discussed key issues on the COP29 agenda, aiming to collaborate in addressing the climate crisis.

 “It is essential to join efforts to achieve common goals that benefit our nations and the planet,” stated the Venezuelan minister. Both leaders expressed their commitment to working together to tackle current environmental challenges.

 In this context, Lorca underscored that Venezuela and Russia, as energy powers with abundant oil and gas resources, play a crucial role in promoting a just and sustainable climate transition. “Our resources must be used effectively for the well-being of our peoples and all humanity,” he added.

 It is noteworthy that on November 7, in Caracas, Venezuela and Russia signed 17 agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation until 2030 during the eighteenth meeting of the High-Level Intergovernmental Commission (CIAN).

 Among the highlighted agreements are a development plan for key areas, a convention on science and technology, and a memorandum between Petróleo de Venezuela (PDVSA) and Kazan Federal University for training in the energy sector.
